- The first step for you is to find out if the house you are planning on rebuilding or renovating is a Protected Structure. Have a look at your county council’s County Development Plan to see if your building is listed as a Protected Structure.
- A protected structure is a structure that a planning authority considers to be of special interest from an architectural, historical, archaeological, artistic, cultural, scientific, social or technical point of view.
- If you are the owner or occupier of a protected structure, you are legally obliged to prevent it becoming endangered whether through damage or neglect. This document describes the protection given to these structures underĀ Part IV of the Planning and Development Act 2000.
